Informacje o zabiegu

Septoplasty is a nasal septum surgery. The indications for this procedure are as follows:

  • significant septum deviation, leading to breathing disorders through the nose
  • recurrent inflammation of paranasal sinusitis, palatine tonsils, lacrimal canals
  • post-traumatic and non-flammable deformations
  • vasomotoric rhinorrhea of the nasal mucosa
  • significant impairment of smell, either single or double-sided
  • chronic/recurrent otitis media with effusion

Septoplasty can be carried out with various methods. The choice of anaesthesia depends on the anesthesiologist. It can be performed under both local anaesthesia (patient is conscious during surgery, but does not feel pain because the surgical field is anaesthetized) or under general anaesthesia (patient is under anaesthesia – falls asleep for the time of surgery, which does not remember at all). The surgeon conducts cuts inside the nasal cavity. As a result, no scars remain on your face. The doctor removes the mucous membrane of nose up to the cartilaginous part. Next, it restores the proper shape of partition by cutting out some of its fragments or rebuilding its structure. The next step is to provide stabilizing seams. Sometimes dressings for both nasal cavities are required. The seams are removed after about a week. The whole procedure takes an hour. Patients in the period of convalescence should reduce their physical effort to a minimum; ensure that the nasal cavity is properly moistened using preparations made of sea salt, etc.; when sneezing open your mouth to minimize pressure in the nasal cavity. In case of excessive bleeding, cool the nose and paranasal sinuses using cold compresses. Also helpful are preparations of oxymatazolin, which shrink blood vessels.
